Murphy Ford Sales Ltd. was established in 1966 and prides itself as being one of the oldest and most respected dealerships in the Ottawa Valley. Founded by Fred Murphy in Pembroke, the dealership extended its reach in 2007 to CFB Petawawa, where Dealer Principal Mike Murphy opened a second location at the CANEX Mall. "We noticed from our service department that a lot of people were being transfered in and they had Ford products, so we wanted to reach out to those people and not only provide them service, but provide an introduction to them," he said. "We understand people in the military have unique needs and we're trying to provide for that."
Starting in November 2008, Manager Paul Burnham came on board and the new partnership has solidified that commitment, noted Murphy. The former business owner is on-site to provide customers with the information they need to make informed decisions. "We want people in Petawawa to know that we are interested in keeping them in Petawawa and providing them the services they want," Murphy explained. Also in keeping with Murphy Ford's ongoing commitment to Canadian Forces personnel and their families at CFB Petawawa, advertising dollars for the Petawawa location are spent solely in Petawawa.
The business has maintained a long-standing relationship with the Petawawa Post, Petawawa's only community newspaper. "The paper supports the military and everything you want to know about the militarywhether it's a luncheon, a parade, a deployment or a training mission, it's in this paper," noted Burnham. "We're on a military base catering to the military and the civilian workforce, so it makes sense."
